The series materializes the immaterial notion of “process” through physical traces of action and the repeated reconfiguration of the work. Using the blackening technique, the metal surface is chemically oxidized through multiple layers of application. Rather than achieving the desired tone in a single gesture, the work highlights the accumulation of actions and the tactile engagement with the material. Each layer is applied with varying concentrations and tools to ensure differing textures and densities. This repetitive layering functions not merely as a technical method of coloring but as a process through which time and action permeate the material.
The work consists of individual pieces that transform into various forms and functions depending on installation methods, arrangement, and user involvement. Each piece shifts in role and appearance according to its orientation and placement, embodying the openness and indeterminacy of a work situated “in process.” By designing the system to be reconfigurable rather than fixed, the series allows ideas of formation and fluidity to be perceptually experienced.
